Ethanol Supply Little Changed

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- Total domestic ethanol inventories were down 0.4% as of Jan. 15 amid another 4% weekly increase in demand, according to data released by the Energy Information Administration on Friday, Jan. 22.

Blending activity, a measure of demand, increased 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 778,000 bpd, down 10% from the same week in 2020, data show. Blending activity during the four weeks ended Jan. 15 averaged 766,000 bpd, 85,000 bpd below the comparable year-ago period.

At 23.628 million barrels (bbl), domestic ethanol supply declined 64,000 bbl in the week reviewed, down about 2% from a year ago.

EIA reported East Coast PADD 1 declined 58,000 bbl to 7.781 million bbl while Midwest PADD 2 supply rose 137,000 bbl to 8.095 million bbl.

At the Gulf Coast PADD 3, stocks declined a second week, down 166,000 bbl to 4.413 million bbl and stocks along the West Coast PADD 5 stocks added 37,000 bbl to 2.975 million bbl.

Ethanol plant production held higher, up 4,000 bpd to 945,000 bpd in the week ended Jan. 15, about 10% lower than the corresponding week in 2020. Four-week average output dropped 130,000 bpd against year ago to 938,000 bpd.
