Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Forecast showers keeping Midwest fieldwork progress very uneven, and additional showers for central Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MIXED MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for additional mixed prospects for Midwest fieldwork through the balance of the week. Eastern and southern areas will have a drier trend, offering some chance for fieldwork and planting progress. Northwest and north-central areas continue to see extensive delays due to wet conditions resulting from early week rain. The six- to 10-day period also features periods of rain and variable temperatures. Fieldwork progress delays are expected.

LIMITED DRYING IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains and Canadian Prairies, an increase in showers is likely during the next week to 10 days, especially through southern and eastern areas. It is also likely to be cooler for a time. This means cool and damp to wet conditions, with additional delays to early season fieldwork.

SOUTHERN PLAINS THUNDERSTORMS

In the Southern Plains, Texas and Oklahoma are likely to experience locally heavy rainfall during the next two days. Some local severe flooding is possible; however, the rain will provide additional soil moisture for winter wheat and pre-plant soil moisture for cotton, along with improving pasture and hay supplies for livestock.

RAIN HEADS FOR DELTA

A new round of moderate-to-heavy rain is expected in the Delta during the next few days. This will likely mean some delays to seasonal fieldwork and planting. A drier pattern is suggested in the six- to 10-day forecast.

CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

In central Brazil, Mato Grosso had scattered moderate-to-locally-heavy showers and thundershowers during the past 24 hours. This will maintain favorable moisture for development of second-crop corn (safrinha).

NORTHERN ARGENTINA FLOODING

Northern Argentina and Paraguay had some heavy rain and flooding during the past week. This is likely to have caused some soybean and cotton crop loss. Major crop areas of Cordoba, Santa Fe and Buenos Aires have mainly favorable conditions.

FAVORABLE BLACK SEA CONDITIONS

Across the Black Sea region, soil moisture for vegetative winter wheat is generally favorable, following moderate-to-locally-heavy rain during the past week. Drier conditions are forecast over the next week to 10 days.

MINIMAL AUSTRALIA RAIN

Across Australia, showers and thunderstorms in eastern areas largely bypassed the primary wheat sectors. Very little additional moisture is expected in the next week. Western Australia also has only isolated shower activity forecast.
