Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain to continue the flood threat in the western Midwest, and additional mild conditions in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

CONTINUED MIDWEST FLOODING

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for major flooding in the northern and western Midwest due to heavy rains last week and melting snow. Additional light to moderate rain is expected over the weekend, with the potential for a more significant system later next week. The latest official spring flood outlook from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) features a threat of moderate to major flooding over the western, northern, and southwestern Midwest through the spring season.

SNOW-MELT AND NORTHERN PLAINS FLOODING

In the Northern Plains, continued melting of the region's heavy snow pack will lead to major flooding on the Red River this spring. Rainfall is expected to be limited during the next seven to 10 days, allowing a more orderly snow-melt.

WEEKEND SHOWERS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Showers will cross the Southern Plains during the coming weekend. Rainfall will keep muddy and stressful conditions in place for livestock in feedlots while maintaining favorable soil moisture for winter wheat.

BENIGN BRAZIL FORECAST

Crop conditions remain favorable for Brazil's second-crop corn (safrinha). Southern areas have a drier pattern to benefit soybean harvest.

QUIET ARGENTINA PATTERN

Light rain and seasonal to below normal temperatures are in store for Argentina crop areas over the next week, maintaining favorable conditions.

FAVORABLE BLACK SEA TREND

Early spring conditions in the Black Sea region are mainly favorable for winter wheat exiting dormancy. A recently dry pattern in southeastern Ukraine will warrant close attention over the next few weeks.
