OMAHA (DTN) -- A forecast offering continued development of rain, and a close watch on flood potential in the Northern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST SHOWERS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for several occurrences of rain across the Midwest during the next week. Amounts will be variable. Moderate to locally heavy amounts are indicated over central, eastern and southern sectors. Extensive spells of drier conditions are not indicated in the forecast. The continued occurrences of rainfall bring on the threat of additional flooding in western and central areas. Extensive fieldwork delays continue for the region.

FLOOD WATCH IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, seasonal temperatures and light precipitation are indicated through the next week. This trend will allow an orderly snow melt of heavy snow cover. However, flooding is already in place in some river basins, and more is expected due to the heavy snow cover. Spring fieldwork will be delayed this season.

RAIN AHEAD FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains areas will have moderate to locally heavy rainfall over the next five days. Soil moisture is at adequate to surplus levels in northern areas and is improving in southern areas. Rainfall will keep muddy and stressful conditions in place for livestock in feedlots.

CONSISTENT BRAZIL RAIN

Consistent rain prospects are indicated for central and northern Brazil crop areas. The rain keeps soil moisture at beneficial levels for the safrinha corn crop. Lighter rainfall is forecast for southern areas.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

Argentina crop areas continue with favorable conditions for corn, soybean and sunflower crops. Mild weather and light rain are featured over the next seven days.
