Commodities Market Impact Weather
Brief Drier Period in Midwest
OMAHA (DTN) -- A short period of drier conditions in the Midwest, and forecasts for a wetter period in the 10-day time frame, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
UNSETTLED MIDWEST PATTERN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for continued major flooding in the northern and western Midwest due to heavy rains last week and melting snow.
Rainfall is expected to be limited during the next five days, which should allow for some improvement. However, a return to wet weather is possible either during the six- to 10-day period or shortly thereafter. This could lead to another round of flooding. Little if any fieldwork will be done this month.
NORTHERN PLAINS FLOOD THREAT

In the Northern Plains, a heavy snowpack in the eastern Dakotas will lead to major flooding on the Red River this spring. Rainfall is expected to be limited during the next seven to 10 days, allowing a more orderly snowmelt. However, there are indications that precipitation could increase during the 10- to 15-day period, which could cause significant flooding.
VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS
Southern Plains areas were dry during the past weekend. Light precipitation is indicated this week. The rain will be useful in southern areas, which have been recently dry.
ADDITIONAL BRAZIL RAIN
Rain prospects start out the week in a favorable trend for most Brazil crop areas. The rain keeps soil moisture at beneficial levels for the safrinha corn crop.
FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND
Argentina crop areas continue with favorable conditions for corn, soybean and sunflower crops.
