Commodities Market Impact Weather
Midwest Continues with Very Cold Pattern
OMAHA (DTN) -- Very cold weather for the Midwest, cold conditions for the Southern Plains wheat areas, and favorable moisture in South America, are key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
VERY COLD FOR MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for very cold weather in the Midwest during the next five to six days with some light snow as well. On Sunday and Monday, the average temperatures are expected to be drop 25 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit below normal, for example, in the western Midwest. It will be not as stormy as recent weather patterns. There will be increased stress on livestock due to the extreme cold conditions. Light to moderate snow will at times delay travel and transport, especially west and north areas. Recent moderate to heavy rains in the eastern Midwest will lead to increased flooding. Significant flooding is possible in the western Midwest this coming spring when the snow melts.

HARSH SOUTHERN PLAINS COLD
In the Southern Plains, temperatures will average below to well-below normal today, near to below normal tomorrow, and below normal Saturday. Some beneficial precipitation for the overwintering wheat crop occurred during the weekend. Snow in the feedlots of west Kansas will stress cattle. The feedlots in west Kansas may see snow and some wind late Saturday or during Saturday night into Sunday. This will be followed by well-below normal temperatures, increasing stress to cattle once again.
ADDITIONAL BRAZIL RAIN
Rainfall in southern Brazil early this week will favor late-filling soybeans in Rio Grande do Sul while causing some delay to the soybean harvest and the planting of second-crop corn in Parana. Rainfall in Parana will favor development of earlier planted second-crop corn. Recent rains in Mato Grosso will have little impact on the already well-advanced harvest of soybeans. Locally heavy rains may mean some may have to replant second-crop corn, but in general, rains favor second-crop corn in Mato Grosso and in Goias.
FAVORABLE ARGENTINA CONDITIONS
In Argentina, the weekend rain and much cooler weather early this week will ease stress to crops following recent heat in the area. Periods of showers over the next few days will be favorable for filling corn and soybeans.
