OMAHA (DTN) -- A continued mainly dry pattern over most of Brazil's crop areas and variable precipitation in Argentina are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

RAIN AND SNOW FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast continues to feature a new winter storm system for the Midwest by late week. Rain, mixed precipitation and snow will cause transportation delays. Meanwhile, northern areas will have an intense cold wave through the seven-day period.

BITTER COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Harsh Arctic cold is set to cover the Northern Plains during the remainder of the week. This cold wave will hinder transportation and will be stressful for livestock. The pattern turns more seasonal in the seven- to 10-day time frame.

SNOW SQUALL FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, the pattern remains favorable for overwintering wheat. There is no damaging cold weather in sight. A brief round of snow during the coming weekend shows little threat to livestock.

CONTINUED BRAZIL DRYNESS

South-central through northeastern Brazil continues with a pattern featuring well-above-normal temperatures and very little rainfall through the next seven days. Soybean crop prospects are steadily declining. The only sector receiving adequate to surplus rainfall is the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the far south.

CONSISTENT ARGENTINA PATTERN

In Argentina, central and southern crop areas have periodic rounds of rain with generally mild temperatures; conditions remain mostly favorable. Continued moderate to heavy rain remains in the forecast for the northern crop areas.
