Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Variable late-stage harvest conditions across the Midwest, and an overall favorable pattern in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MIXED MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mainly dry conditions and normal to above normal temperatures in the western Midwest this week. This combination is favorable for remaining harvest. Eastern Midwest areas continue to have periods of rain and snow disrupting activity.

COLDER SOUTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

Southern Plains' areas will have periods of cold weather during the next 10 days, leading to slow development of wheat. The crop may be going into dormancy with this pattern.

CONTINUED FAVORABLE BRAZIL TREND

Brazil crop areas remain with favorable conditions for developing soybeans. Additional rain is indicated this week. Soybean planting is in its final stages.

DRIER ARGENTINA FORECAST

In central Argentina, light precipitation is forecast this week. This drier trend is favorable for row crop planting and wheat harvest.

EASTERN EUROPE DRYNESS

In eastern Europe, dryness remains of much concern in and around Germany and in the Balkan states. Periods of snow and rain occurred during the past weekend in the Balkan region, with more precipitation in store this week. This round of precipitation should improve moisture supplies somewhat in that area.

SHOWERS FOR BLACK SEA REGION

In the Black Sea region, showers with moderate precipitation totals are indicated for southern Ukraine and south Russia this week. The moisture will be useful for winter wheat.

POSSIBLE EASTERN AUSTRALIA RAIN

Eastern Australia has a chance for moderate to heavy rain during the next week. The rain will benefit summer crops, but is too late for drought-affected wheat. There is some uncertainty regarding rain chances for the Murray-Darling basin.

WEEKEND CHINA RAIN

In central China, moderate rain occurred during the past weekend in the Yangtze River valley and the southern portion of the North China Plain. Precipitation continues to recharge soil moisture for pre-winter development.

SOUTH INDIA FLOODING

South India had severe flooding due to heavy rain from tropical cyclone Gaja late last week. Unharvested summer crops and recently planted winter crops likely incurred damage. Lives and property were also at risk due to the severe flooding and high winds associated with this cyclone.

POSSIBLE SOUTH AFRICA SHOWERS

South Africa crop areas were hot and dry through the weekend. High temperatures in the maize areas ranged from the 90s to low 100s Fahrenheit. Scattered thunderstorms are indicated early this week, with overall cooler conditions.
