Chilly and Wet in Midwest

OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain and very cool to cold temperatures continuing to disrupt Midwest harvest and consistent rain over Brazil soybean areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

COOL AND WET IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for Midwest harvest to be snarled by recent heavy rains and very cool to cold temperatures, especially in the western and northern Midwest. Quality may suffer. A drier weather pattern appears to be setting up for next week; however, progress will remain slow in wettest areas.

WET IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains wet conditions will disrupt row-crop harvest and winter wheat planting, but rain will be favorable for soil moisture. Additional rain will move through southern areas during the weekend, the moisture associated with post-tropical storm Sergio.

SLOWLY-IMPROVING NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Northern Plains, harvest remains delayed by rain and snow. The pattern turns drier during the next week, offering some better conditions for progress.

DELTA RAIN FORECAST

The Delta has rain ahead over the next week. Additional fieldwork delays are likely.

SOUTHEAST HURRICANE DAMAGE

In the southeastern U.S., major crop damage has occurred from Hurricane Michael, especially in Georgia due to heavy rains and very strong winds.

WEST TEXAS RAIN

In west Texas, moderate to heavy rain associated with post-tropical storm Sergio is expected on Saturday. This will be followed by cold and unsettled weather early next week. This combination is unfavorable for harvest.

SLOW PRAIRIES HARVEST

In the Canadian Prairies, unsettled conditions through Saturday will continue to delay harvest; progress is one to two weeks behind average. The pattern turns drier next week, offering some improvement for harvest.

CONTINUED BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil continues with periods of rain and favorable soil moisture for soybean development.

DRY IN RUSSIA

In the Black Sea region, soil moisture is short to very short in Russia and Ukraine. This is unfavorable for the establishment of winter wheat.

AUSTRALIA SHOWER FORECAST

Australia wheat areas continue with rain forecast through the next week, including in the hardest-hit drought states of New South Wales and Queensland. Wheat crop benefit will be minimal, however, due to the extensive drought this season.
