Rain for Western Midwest
OMAHA (DTN) -- Wetter conditions in the western Midwest forecast and showers to benefit central Brazil are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.
RAINY WESTERN MIDWEST FORECAST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for Midwest crop areas to be dry through the weekend. The seven-day forecast turns wetter in the western and northern areas, leading to disruption in harvest. Eastern and southern areas will remain dry with favorable harvest conditions.
DRY FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS PLANTING
In the Southern Plains, a dry and very warm pattern over the next week will be favorable for winter wheat planting. Soil moisture is much-improved for wheat establishment due to late-summer rainfall.
NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS
The Northern Plains will have periods of showers over the next week, leading to some disruption in harvest. Temperatures will trend notably cooler as well.

MOSTLY DRY IN DELTA
Delta crop areas will be mainly dry through the weekend, with favorable harvest conditions.
HEAVY HURRICANE FLORENCE RAIN
Category One Hurricane Florence is making landfall in southern North Carolina. Flooding rain, damaging winds and storm surge will cause extensive property damage and safety risk through the weekend in the Carolinas and southern Virginia. Livestock loss and crop damage are also likely.
COLDER AND WETTER IN PRAIRIES
The Canadian Prairies continue to be in line for colder and wetter conditions in the next week. Rain and snow will improve moisture for winter grains, but will disrupt summer-crop harvest along with winter-grain seeding. Frost or freeze temperatures will bring an end to the growing season in many areas.
CENTRAL BRAZIL SHOWERS
In central Brazil, light-to-moderate rain is forecast through the next week, improving soil moisture and allowing for soybean planting to begin on schedule. Southern Brazil has favorable moisture for continued planting progress.
LIGHT RUSSIA SHOWERS
Light to locally moderate rain is forecast for southern Russia and eastern Ukraine through the weekend. Showers will be welcome for winter wheat planting soil moisture.
SHOWERS AND COOL IN CHINA
Northeastern China will have delays in crop maturity and harvest due to a cool and cloudy pattern with periods of showers.
