Mixed Midwest Rain Pattern

OMAHA (DTN)— Wide differences in the Midwest rain forecast, and a dry forecast for the Black Sea region, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for heavy rain in the western and northern Midwest during the next week. Areas that have already had very heavy rain will be in line for renewed flooding. Row crops will be closely monitored for possible disease development along with lodging of plants. Eastern and southern sectors will have much lighter rain, which will be favorable for early harvest activity.

LIMITED RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains areas have another couple days of hot and dry conditions. The weekend brings increase in shower activity, along with lower temperatures. The moisture will be beneficial for later-stage row crops. Soil moisture improvement ahead of winter wheat planting will also develop.

STILL DRY IN WEST TEXAS

West Texas crop areas will be hot and dry through the end of the week. During next week, however, moderate to locally heavy rain is expected, in response to a more-active southwestern U.S. monsoon flow. Rain will benefit soil moisture and pastures, but may be unfavorable for open-boll cotton.

BENIGN NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

In the Northern Plains, seasonal temperatures and periods of showers are favorable for late-season row crop development. Spring wheat harvest is into its final stage.

LIMITED PRAIRIES RAIN

In the Canadian Prairies, a dry pattern is forecast through the next week. This pattern will favor harvest; however, late-filling crops will be under some stress.

DRY RUSSIA FORECAST

Russia and Ukraine have dry conditions forecast through the next week. Soil moisture is generally in short supply and unfavorable for planting winter wheat.

DRY IN EASTERN AUSTRALIA

In eastern Australia, dry conditions are forecast through the next week. Soil moisture had marginal improvement from recent rainfall, but will again decline with no follow-up precipitation.

NORTHERN INDIA RAIN

The India monsoon remains active over north-central and northeast India. The Ganges Plain will benefit from additional shower and thunderstorm activity during the next five days. The west-central crop belt will be on the edge of this activity.
