DTN Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Beneficial Midwest rain, with a variable long-range forecast, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MOSTLY FAVORABLE MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly favorable weather for filling and maturing corn and soybeans, except more rain would benefit crops in parts of the west. Some beneficial showers and thunderstorms are expected during the next two days. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures are expected to average mostly above normal. Rainfall is expected to be near to below normal south and east, and near to above normal northwest.

LIMITED RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains areas will have little rainfall and episodes of hot weather that will deplete soil moisture and stress filling corn and soybeans. More rain will be needed to support winter wheat planting this fall. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures are expected to average above to well-above normal during this period, and rainfall below normal south, near to below normal north.

STILL DRY IN WEST TEXAS

West Texas cotton areas continue to be dry or with only a few isolated thundershowers today. It will be mainly dry Wednesday through Monday, with temperatures mostly in the middle 90s Fahrenheit.

LIMITED RAIN FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, more rain would benefit filling corn and soybeans as crop ratings deteriorate. Rainfall is expected to remain limited during the next 10 days with episodes of above-normal temperatures.

WEEKEND SHOWERS FELL IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, crop development is reported to be ahead of normal with maturing crops and harvesting started. Harvest is most advanced in the drier fields of the southwest and south-central areas, as well as in the east. Yield reductions are expected due to summer heat and dryness.

Weekend weather featured showers or rain in Alberta, north Saskatchewan and Manitoba and frost or light freezing temperatures in northwest and east areas. Due to the advanced nature of the crops, the frost/light freeze is not that much of a concern. Rainfall is neutral at best and may be unfavorable for maturing crops and crop harvesting in Manitoba.

HOT, DRY PATTERN IN UKRAINE, SOUTH RUSSIA

A late-season hot, dry pattern has set up over south and east Ukraine and south Russia. This pattern has been in and out of the area all season long. A period of rain during midsummer helped ease concerns for crops. Late-summer hot, dry weather may stress late-filling crops while favoring maturing crops and early harvests. Dry/hot weather at this time also deletes soil moisture for planting the next winter wheat crop.

WEEKEND SHOWERS IN AUSTRALIA

Rain, 0.50 inch to 1.25 inches, occurred in southern Queensland and northern New South Wales in Australia during the weekend. This included key areas for sorghum and cotton, planted beginning next month, and winter wheat in reproductive to filling growth stages. Rainfall will help ease stress to a drought-affected wheat crop in the area and will help recharge soil moisture and irrigation for planting cotton and sorghum. However, more rain will be needed to stabilize prospects for wheat and improve prospects for summer planted crops.

FAVORABLE INDIA MONSOON RAIN

The monsoon remains active in north-central India and in central India. This occasionally brings rain to the Gujarat area and to Maharashtra and frequently brings rain to west Madhya Pradesh. Rainfall that has occurred through the west-central India region during the past seven to 10 days has likely improved the outlook in key crop areas for sorghum, cotton, groundnuts and sugarcane. Rainfall maintains a favorable outlook for key growing areas for soybeans.
