DTN Market Impact Weather
Variable Midwest Rain
OMAHA (DTN) -- Variable rainfall in the Midwest and continued heavy rain prospects in Russia wheat harvest areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
MIXED MIDWEST OUTLOOK
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for varied conditions across the Midwest. Northern and eastern areas will see periods of rain over the next week, benefiting crops. Southern and western areas will be drier with noted crop stress. Temperatures will turn cooler for all areas.
MORE DRYNESS IN SOUTHERN PLAINS
Southern Plains crop areas will be mainly dry and hot through the end of the week. Stress to corn, soybeans, sorghum and hay will be noted. Pastures and water areas for livestock are also declining. Showers are not indicated for the region until the seven- to 10-day time frame.
MORE WEST TEXAS HEAT
West Texas cotton areas continue with stressful heat and dryness through the rest of the week. Daytime high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) will be common.

WIDE NORTHERN PLAINS DIFFERENCE
Northern Plains crop areas have a sharp difference in conditions. The eastern portion of the region, especially North Dakota and Minnesota, has crops in mostly good-to-excellent condition. Additional showers are forecast through the end of the week. Montana, however, is dry and hotter, with increasing stress to spring wheat along with pastures and hay.
DRY IN WESTERN PRAIRIES
Varied rains are indicated across the Canadian Prairies over the next week. Southwest and central areas will be mainly dry. North and east areas have more activity indicated. Temperatures vary somewhat but with some fairly warm days. More rain is needed in all sectors to fully support filling crops.
WET PATTERN FOR RUSSIA
In the Black Sea region, Russia continues to be in line for moderate to heavy rain over the next week. This rain is poorly timed for wheat harvest, and will likely result in quality loss and possible actual crop loss. Russia's wheat crop is already projected to be lower than the past two seasons.
SCATTERED NORTHEAST CHINA SHOWERS
Northeast China will have scattered thunderstorms and near- to mostly-above-normal temperatures through the weekend, mostly favoring crops. Heavier rains tend to occur in key soybean growing areas of Heilongjiang Province. Some hot weather may stress reproductive corn in southern areas.
HOT IN CENTRAL CHINA
In central China, hot and mostly dry weather continues into Sunday. This pattern brings increasing stress to reproductive and filling summer crops, especially central and south areas that are also too dry. A weakening tropical storm may bring the chance for showers and cooler temperatures to the area early next week.
