DTN Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued prospects for cooler conditions in the Midwest and a hot pattern developing in central China are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MILD MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for showers and mild temperatures in the Midwest through the rest of the week. This pattern will favor row-crop development. However, dryness and heat have already caused notable crop stress and reduced production in the southwestern portion (Missouri and Kansas) along with the northeastern portion (Michigan) of the region.

WIDE VARIANCE IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains crop areas will have a wide variance in conditions the rest of the week. Showers and cooler temperatures will favor reproductive corn and soybeans in Kansas. However, Oklahoma and Texas will be dry with very hot conditions. Heat and dryness expand through the entire region later this week.

WEST TEXAS STAYS HOT AND DRY

West Texas cotton areas have mainly hot and dry conditions through the balance of the week. Daytime high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) will be common.

STILL FAVORABLE IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains crops remain in mostly good to excellent condition, especially in North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Showers and a more variable temperature pattern in the eastern and southern areas this week will favor developing crops. Montana spring wheat will likely have some stress due to a drier and hotter trend.

SCATTERED SHOWERS OVER CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Across the Canadian Prairies, a variable temperature pattern and episodes of scattered showers during this week will favor developing crops.

PERIODIC NORTHEAST CHINA SHOWERS

Northeast China's forecast continues with episodes of scattered thunderstorms and near- to above-normal temperatures this week, mostly favoring crops.

CENTRAL CHINA HEAT

Across central China, thunderstorms were noted Monday through north and northwest areas, with drier and hot conditions elsewhere in the region. An upper-level high-pressure ridge will build in from the east this week. This should force thunderstorms north of the region and allow for hot temperatures. Areas that have received significant thunderstorm activity recently should be able to withstand a certain period of hot, dry weather. However, other areas will quickly suffer from this pattern.
