DTN Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- A round of midsummer rain for the Midwest in the seven-day forecast and midweek rain over the Canadian Prairies are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

NEW MIDWEST RAIN PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain to form over most of the Midwest during the next week. The rain will offer crop moisture benefits, along with ushering in more seasonal temperatures, following some hot and stressful weather. The southwestern Midwest will see only light totals, however. Drought conditions have significantly intensified in Missouri recently. Meanwhile, the northwestern Midwest will have a new round of flood potential due to heavy rain.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

The Southern Plains have variable rain chances over the next week. Northern sectors will see frequent occurrences of light to moderate activity. Southern areas will remain on the dry side. Temperatures will also continue to be hot and stressful for summer crops and pastures in the southern sector of the region. Southeastern Colorado is now in level four drought -- exceptional -- on the weekly Drought Monitor.

LIMITED WEST TEXAS SHOWERS

West Texas cotton areas have no significant chance for rainfall during the next seven days. Temperatures will generally be above normal, adding further to heat stress.

RAIN FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, showers and a more variable temperature pattern in the Dakotas and north Minnesota will favor developing crops during the coming days.

SHOWERS DEVELOP IN PRAIRIES

Recent Canadian Prairies rainfall totals show that south-central areas had moderate to locally heavy amounts, with light to moderate totals elsewhere. Rainfall chances during the next week are mostly on the light side. However, a turn to cooler temperatures should favor development of crops.

RUSSIA STAYS HOT

In the Black Sea region, a hot pattern in South Russia continues. More above-normal temperatures are in store over the next week. However, there also appears to be some increased chances for scattered thunderstorms, especially later this weekend. If rainfall does improve, it might help filling soybeans or sunflowers; however, this is uncertain.

VARIABLE CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST CHINA TREND

In central and northeast China, scattered thundershowers with a variable temperature pattern are in store from northwest areas of the North China Plain through northeast China during the next five to seven days. Row-crop conditions are mostly favorable. Drier and hotter conditions are indicated through east-central and central areas of the North China Plain, which will increase stress to developing summer crops in these locations during this period.

HEAVY SOUTH CHINA RAIN

In south China, heavy rains associated with Typhoon Maria affected Taiwan and southeast to central areas of the south China region this week. Local flooding may affect rice, but the hardest-hit areas, Fujian and Zhejiang, are not major producers of rice.

FAVORABLE INDIA MONSOON RAIN

India monsoon rain was heavy rains during the past 24 hours in western and northwest areas of south India, the west-central region of India and the southwest and central Ganges plain. This included southeast Gujarat and much of West Madhya Pradesh. Rainfall potential during the next week is favorable to excessive from central interior areas northward, except possibly in far west areas of the north India region.
