Mixed Midwest Conditions
OMAHA (DTN) -- A mix of mild and wetter conditions in the Midwest forecast, and very little improvement in Southern Plains drought, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
VARIABLE MIDWEST PATTERN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a warmer period through the weekend in the Midwest. This will offer some improvement in fieldwork and planting conditions. However, a moderate to heavy rain threat develops during early next week, which will disrupt progress.
MINIMAL SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWER BENEFIT
Southern Plains wheat and pasture areas have only slight improvement in conditions with an expected increase in shower chances through the next week. Rainfall will not be sufficient to ease drought conditions.
WARMER IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, warmer weather with only scattered light showers will offer improved late-week conditions for planting and early crop development.
DELTA SHOWERS
In the Delta, periods of showers during the next two days will cause some disruption in planting progress. Producers have in general had a favorable start to the season, however.
WARMER IN CANADIAN PRAIRIES
In the Canadian Prairies, a warming trend will improve field conditions through the weekend. Showers and some rain may reach into southern growing areas later this weekend or Monday.
DRY FORECAST IN BRAZIL
Brazil’s central crop areas have another round of dry conditions through early next week. Soil moisture is generally favorable for the second-crop (safrinha) corn. However, the onset of the dry season may be underway, suggesting reduced moisture for filling corn.
DRIER CHINA TREND
Central China crop areas have a drier 10-day forecast. The drier pattern may be stressful to advancing winter wheat and rapeseed.
