OMAHA (DTN) -- Extensive delays from cold and snow in the Midwest, and a promising rain forecast in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MAJOR STORM FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for extensive disruption to spring fieldwork in the Midwest following a stormy weekend, with heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and in west and northwest areas snow and blizzard conditions. This is likely to further delay spring fieldwork and early corn planting. Blizzard conditions or snow and wind in the northwest and far west also affected travel and transport. Another system this week may bring more snow to northwest growing areas.

NORTHERN PLAINS SNOW

The Northern Plains had heavy snow with blizzard conditions during the past weekend, creating very stressful conditions for livestock, along with travel and transport. Low temperatures continue to delay any early spring fieldwork, and maintain high stress levels on livestock.

SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN CHANCE

The Southern Plains has a round of very beneficial rainfall forecast for later in the week. Until then, winds and low relative humidity will maintain high stress levels on wheat.

UNSETTLED DELTA FORECAST

The Delta had severe storms with heavy rains, strong winds, some hail and a few tornadoes during the past weekend. Soil moisture is likely adequate to surplus for earlier planted corn. Slowdowns likely occur to planting progress due to these periodic heavy rain events. The next risk of heavy storms in the area looks to be this coming weekend.

BRAZIL SHOWERS

Central Brazil has more showers, maintaining favorable soil moisture for developing second crop corn.
