OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued Argentina dryness, and more drought impact in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

MINIMAL ARGENTINA RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast continues to call for very dry conditions and adverse impact on corn and soybean development in Cordoba and Santa Fe in central Argentina after the failure of last weekend's system to reach into these important growing areas. There is no significant rainfall in sight.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN

In Brazil, there are no significant concerns at this time for maturing and harvesting of soybeans and first crop corn or development of second crop corn.

CONTINUED DRYNESS IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Across the Southern Plains, well-above-normal temperatures push readings to near 90 degrees Fahrenheit Friday in the driest areas of the southwest, increasing stress to the winter wheat crop. Red flag warnings will likely expand north into Kansas Friday. A somewhat more active southern branch trough suggests a chance for needed rains to occur in north-central Texas and southwest Oklahoma early next week. It is unlikely that the driest areas of the region, the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and southwest Kansas, will see much from this system, but a little light rain or a few showers may develop. Areas to the north will see little during the next 10 days.

UNSETTLED MIDWEST TREND

Episodes of rain, some snow and periods of colder weather will likely lead to delays in early spring fieldwork across the Midwest during the next seven to 10 days. Wet conditions or snow may affect many areas early in the period. Later in the period, the south and east may be wetter than the west. We also note a period of warmer weather for the region early in the six- to 10-day period before it turns colder again later in the period.

SNOW FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, North Dakota is expected to see snow with melted precipitation of 0.25 to 0.50 inch centered on Friday. The crop area will benefit from the added moisture, but the snow will lead to transport delays and will be unfavorable for livestock.

VARIABLE DELTA FORECAST

The Delta will see drier and warmer weather at the end of this week and this weekend, which will improve conditions for spring fieldwork somewhat. However, rain will likely return to the area during the early or middle part of next week and this rain could be very heavy.
