Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Very little rain for Argentina, and promising moisture chances in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VARIABLE ARGENTINA RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast again calls for widely variable rainfall in Argentina during the weekend. Moderate-to-heavy rain is indicated for eastern crop areas. Central and western areas, however, may see only light to locally moderate showers. Drought and dryness continues to affect filling corn and soybeans. Rain, if verified, would help to stabilize crop prospects for some locations, but losses have already occurred.

RAIN FOR SOUTHERN BRAZIL

In southern Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul has heavy rain in store by the end of the week. This may be unfavorable for maturing crops and could delay the harvest as well. Meanwhile, Parana looks drier and warmer during the coming days, which will be a beneficial combination for harvest along with planting of second-crop corn (safrinha).

VOLATILE SOUTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Southern Plains, high winds and a wildfire warnings are in effect Friday, maintaining high stress on wheat. However, rain is indicated for much of the Kansas crop area through the weekend. This would be important precipitation. Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle will miss this chance. These areas also look to continue dry for the balance of the 10-day period.

NORTHERN PLAINS STORM

In the Northern Plains, moderate-to-heavy snow is in store for western and central areas of South Dakota. Transportation delays and livestock stress are likely. The moisture will have some freezing precipitation included, which will be unfavorable for transportation, livestock and winter wheat. Another system during the weekend poses heavy wintry mixed precipitation over western Nebraska, causing issues for livestock and transportation.

MIDWEST RAIN FORECAST

In the Midwest, light-to-moderate rain is indicated for Iowa through the next 24 hours. Some snow is possible as well. Eastern Midwest areas will see rain and cool temperatures continuing to delay the start of spring field work.

ADDITIONAL DELTA DELAYS

In the Delta, wet and very wet conditions will continue to hamper spring field work in the region. A new system may bring more rain to the area Sunday into Monday. Warmer temperatures ahead of this trough will help dry fields somewhat, but cooler weather follows which limits potential drying after the rain event.
