OMAHA (DTN) -- No significant rains for the next seven days in Argentina, and continued dryness concerns in the Southern Plains winter wheat area, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MOSTLY DRY FOR ARGENTINA

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry weather in the major corn and soybean areas of Argentina to continue to stress filling corn and soybeans with crop losses occurring. There is not much rainfall forecast for the driest areas of Santa Fe during the next seven days.

MOSTLY FAVORABLE CONDITIONS IN BRAZIL

In central Brazil, it's a somewhat drier, hotter period for crop areas of Mato Grosso at this time, although a few scattered showers are possible at times. This should help improve conditions for harvesting soybeans and planting second-crop corn. Conditions in southern Brazil are mostly favorable for filling, maturing and early harvesting of soybeans.

DRY PATTERN IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The overall dry weather pattern is expected to continue in the Southern Plains during the next 10 days. More rain will be needed to support the crop when it breaks dormancy. There will be somewhat colder weather at times but nothing that looks threatening.

RISK FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW IN NORTHERN PLAINS

There remains a risk for a significant snow event for the Dakotas and northern Minnesota later this weekend and Monday. This would likely affect travel and transport in the area and increase stress, somewhat, to livestock for a time. After the storm passes, Monday night or early Tuesday, the region should be somewhat colder for a time.

WARMER FOR WESTERN EUROPE

The extreme cold event for Western Europe appears to be coming to an end. Moisture coming in off the Atlantic Ocean may mean snow and rain for much of the area. This helps moderate the Arctic air mass that has been in the area this week and reduces the risk to winter grains and oilseeds.

DRIER FOR SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has a somewhat drier period at this time, along with a warming trend, although isolated thundershowers occurred Wednesday in western growing areas. This will favor filling to early maturing crops in the east following prior heavy rains in the area. Soil moisture should support favorable development of reproductive to filling maize in western crop areas.
