The MyHarvest 2021 Photo Contest is your chance to show off your photographic skills and share your harvest memories. (Photo by

Harvest is in full swing, as plentiful sunshine and some of the warmest September days in recent memory push field drydown like a nationwide blow-dryer. That means it's also a hot time for our annual MyHarvest photo contest.

If you're new to us, the basics on the photo contest are a chance to show off images directly related to the 2021 harvest season. We have a special online webpage where images and information about them can be uploaded, and where everyone can go to vote on their favorites. You don't need special equipment or computer editing software, a simple image from a personal camera or cell phone is just as acceptable as a carefully orchestrated drone shot.

Historically, we've had a wide array of images and all levels of photographic expertise, from sundown combine silhouettes to heavily laden grain carts, infield family gatherings to the always popular lineup of multiple combines gobbling up soybeans in a perfect parallelogram. The contest is a great way to share your operation's favorite harvest moments, and perhaps the perfect excuse to make sure you record all that goes on during harvest 2021.

A few tips: Look for opportunities in the mornings and evenings, when the sunlight is golden and the colors of the crop, the machines, and skin tones really pop. Scenes with gathering storms and clouds can be fun as well. Shooting at high noon tends to make the colors less intense, though we've seen some great images at all times of day, including nighttime with machinery lights cutting through the darkness.

Images of people carrying on the critical tasks of harvest are always strong, though equipment can be exciting as well.

Anyone 18 years or older can enter, and you can enter more than one image. A full set of contest rules is available on our public website at: https://spotlights.dtnpf.com/….

Images can be submitted online from Sept. 20 at 8:00 a.m. CDT until 11:00 p.m. CDT Oct. 30.

All photos are considered in our two event categories, one based on popular public votes and the second our Editors' Choice awards where a team of DTN and Progressive Farmer staff put submissions through the lens of their photographic expertise. We're always impressed with the level of photographic skill out there.

Winners receive cash awards, plus a professionally mounted version of their image. Winning images will be featured in an upcoming issue of Progressive Farmer as well as on our digital pages. We'll also show off some of the submissions along the way in the Photo of the Week spot of our Best of DTN weekly newsletter.

We hope you have a safe, profitable harvest, and share some images of that with the world.
