Top 5 Things to Watch

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Nov. 23. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Standard Time unless otherwise noted.

1. Markets Closed for Thanksgiving: Commodity and equities markets will be closed Thursday for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Markets will reopen, and DTN will be covering them and other news, on Friday. The DTN staff wishes everyone a safe, debate-free Thanksgiving.

2. Celebrating Ag's Best: This week we're celebrating the most recent class of the DTN/Progressive Farmer America's Best Young Farmers and Ranchers. The 2025 winners were announced at a ceremony this past week in San Antonio. The ABYFR project is one we always enjoy here at DTN, recognizing bright young minds that are leading the future of our food and fiber production. A trend to note is the awards are increasingly not to an individual farmer, but to a husband/wife team. It's indicative of the changing roles family members have on the farm; one only has to look at the increasing number of farm wives and their social media channels to get a sample of it. Congratulations to Houston and Katy Howlett, Kentucky; Layne and Ryane Miles, Arkansas; Lucas and Dana Dull, Indiana; DJ and Chelsea Hladky, Nebraska; Lillie Beringer-Crock and Brian Crock, Iowa. Features on these farmers and their operations will be in the January issue of Progressive Farmer magazine. For the full story on their awards, look here: https://www.dtnpf.com/….

3. Reports Pick Up: We're continuing to ferret out the market reports again being released by government agencies, and determine the value, accuracy and timeliness of those reports. For example, the current Commitments of Traders reports, which traditionally hit on Friday afternoons. Whether commodity traders are net long or short is a valuable market signal, and one of the critical factors that make up our proprietary Six Factors market strategies DTN subscribers follow. But those reports stopped in late September when the government closed. Now, those reports are being released, twice a week, but in arrears in the chronological order they would have been released. Even with twice-a-week releases, it's estimated it will be January before the Commitments of Traders data is current. Please note that; and note our market analysis is based on using that out-of-date data with current market conditions. We'll continue to indicate when other data is out-of-date when we reference or share it.

4. Cold Closes out November: A big trough moved into the West over the weekend as the pattern going into early December turns generally colder and more volatile. A push of cold air will be moving through the country mid- to late-week.

5. Reports due this week: Here are expected markets and economic reports due this week. Times or days could be changed as reporting offices catch up following the prolonged government shutdown.
