Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- A forecast for favorable rainfall in the Midwest and more heat and dryness in corn areas of Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.

MIDWEST RAIN PROSPECT

The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain in the eastern and southern Midwest through the next five days. The rain provides beneficial crop moisture following planting. Western areas have lighter amounts in store with some dryness concern. The pattern turns much cooler during the six- to ten-day period with some hints of frost. This will bear watching.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

The Southern Plains have variable rainfall in the forecast. Southeast areas have moderate amounts in store through the weekend. Some moderate totals are also indicated for northwest areas. The southwest sector will get bypassed by this moisture. Another system next week may offer some better widespread showers, but that is not certain yet.

LIGHT MOISTURE FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Recent Northern Plains showers brought only minor benefit for drought-affected soils. The next seven days feature seasonal to below normal temperatures with some frost risk. More showers are possible as well but will provide very little drought easing.

WETTER DELTA PATTERN

The Delta has a new round of storms and locally heavy rain in store through the next few days. The rain will disrupt planting progress along with causing possible flooding.

STORMS IN SOUTHEAST

The southeastern U.S. has prospects for severe thunderstorm activity in northern portions of the region during this late week. Southern sectors have mainly dry conditions in store.

MINIMAL PRAIRIES MOISTURE

Canadian Prairies crop areas remain in the grip of drought. Precipitation during the next seven days is expected to be only scattered and light. This meager moisture offers little benefit.

MORE CENTRAL BRAZIL DRYNESS

Primary Brazil central crop areas have little to no rainfall in the seven-day forecast. The dry season appears to be setting in across the region. This is unfavorable for the second-crop corn which has largely been planted later than average.

CENTRAL ARGENTINA RAIN

The Argentina forecast brings locally heavy rain into the scene for central crop areas. This will be unfavorable for harvest.

EUROPE SHOWERS

Primary Europe crop areas have periods of shower activity in store during the next week to ten days. This pattern will be closely watched for potential improvement in crop moisture.

FAVORABLE RUSSIA PATTERN

Russia and Ukraine crop areas have favorable crop moisture. A cooler pattern in the next week will slow the pace of crop development but no cold weather damage is expected.
