Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Ongoing dryness in Argentina and continued rain in the central Brazil forecast are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Wednesday.

LIGHT MIDWEST MOISTURE

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for showers to move across the northern Midwest during the balance of the week. Drier conditions are expected elsewhere with more seasonal temperatures. Forecast models are unsure of how a storm system will come together this weekend; latest indications are for only light precipitation. A similar light precipitation total is indicated for another potential system early next week.

NO DROUGHT EASING IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, the next seven days are mainly dry for the western sector other than a few snow showers Wednesday night and Thursday. Forecast models are trending drier for the next week as well as systems are not coming together. This is unfavorable for easing drought in the region.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS TEMPERATURES

The Northern Plains have will see above-normal temperatures for the next few days. A shot of cooler weather moves through during the weekend, but temperatures are expected to rise back above normal next week. Dryness and drought continue to plague the region as we head toward spring.

ADDITIONAL CENTAL BRAZIL RAIN

Across Brazil, central and northern crop areas continue with periods of moderate to heavy rain, creating further delays for soybean harvesting and corn planting. However, the showers may not be as widespread as the previous two weeks and may allow some fieldwork to get done. A window for fieldwork opened again across the south recently, but a front passing through the region through Thursday is bringing widespread showers which could be moderate to heavy. This would delay fieldwork but benefit late-filling crops. The front will likely stall around Sao Paulo and Parana into next week, where showers may be focused.

MINIMAL ARGENTINA RAIN

Central Argentina has seen only isolated showers during this week. Many crop areas are drier than normal. Dry and very warm to hot conditions remain in the forecast for the next week or more, concerning for filling corn and soybeans.
