John Deere announced Monday morning the launch of its next generation 6R tractor series -- a model targeting dairies, ranches, and farms, with the capability to operate a 12-row planter, for example, and Deere's new loaders.

"The comfort, versatility and efficiency make the new 6R tractor the go-to choice for many farms and ranches," said Anne Anderson, marketing manager for the John Deere 6 Series tractor line.

Deere's 6R portfolio spans from 110 hp to 250 hp. Deere's complete update targets 180 hp and above.

"We've added 5 to 10 horsepower to each of the existing models," Anderson said. "We've got a completely new cab. We've got new cab suspension, front axle suspension components, all designed to help with (operator) comfort ... and efficiency."

Operator entry into the cab is improved, as is visibility. "Right away you're going to notice that the stair entry is more ergonomic. The door opens wider. The cab inside does have more space, more legroom, more space for the head and shoulders," Anderson said. "You'll notice really good visibility out the front and out the rear. We've actually improved rear visibility by 20%, so you can keep an eye on any implements behind you."

A new e19 powershift transmission delivers strong performance in tough applications, Anderson said. "Essentially it's 19 gears and there's zero interruption shifting between those gears. It's got a dual clutch system that's very smooth shifting if you want to use it manually, but also smooth shifting if you've got it set up automatically," she said.

With the MY27 6R, Deere introduces a new loader designed to deliver more versatility and smarter operation, such as integrated weight sensing for measuring weight on the go, position awareness and optional camera views.

"(Deere) changed some of the bucket geometry (straighter sides) so that you can move more material in less trips, keep more material in the bucket and also improve the rollback angle," Anderson said. "The cameras can be attached on the booms and masks themselves, so you can see what you're going into. They can also be mounted underneath so that if you were lifting a load high up, that you can see underneath to see what you are driving into."

A built-in controller makes it easier to add options in the future -- such as loader suspension, lighting, hydraulic implement unlatch.

Other 6R features include:

-- Full-frame construction for stability under heavy field loads and frequent loader work.

-- Intelligent Power Management automatically delivers extra horsepower when load or PTO demands increase, unlocking up to 40 additional horsepower for a maximum 305 hp on the MY27 6R 260.

-- Built-in connectivity and precision technology.

-- Over-the-air software updates.

MY27 6M UPDATES

As part of its expanded tractor lineup, Deere is also introducing updates to its 6M Series.

The updated 6M lineup includes technology features, such as integrated connectivity and precision ag capabilities and the new e19 powershift transmission. Options found on larger tractors -- G5 CommandCenter display options and the CommandX drive lever -- are available in the 6M lineup.
