Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain through the end of the week for the Midwest, and possible hot and dry stress to southwestern Plains wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

LATE WEEK MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for rain through the end of the week in the Midwest, with some flood threat in western and northern areas. Drier with very warm to hot conditions are featured in the six- to 10-day period. The heat will favor crop development due to ample soil moisture for crop growth.

SOUTHWESTERN PLAINS DRYNESS

Southwestern Plains areas have a dry forecast through the next 10 days. Much-above-normal temperatures accompany the dry trend and will be stressful for filling wheat.

WARM NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Northern Plains crop areas have a warmer and drier trend is featured through early June. Heat stress is expected to be minimal. The warmer and drier conditions will be favorable for completion of planting.

ADDITIONAL DELTA RAIN

The Delta has continued showers and thunderstorms ahead through the balance of this week. Some crop stress from wet soils may develop. Cotton planting and emergence are running behind average; some switching to additional soybean acreage is possible.

WARMER PRAIRIES FORECAST

A warmer pattern remains in the Canadian Prairies forecast over the next week. This pattern should accelerate planting and crop growth. Showers may also increase, which would benefit emerging crops.

SHOWERS FOR BLACK SEA REGION

Across the Black Sea region, moderate to locally heavy rain is featured through the next seven days in Ukraine through southern Russia. The rain will be beneficial for wheat and row crops.

DRY WESTERN EUROPE FORECAST

In western Europe, France and Germany have little to no rain in the seen-day forecast. Wheat crop prospects are declining due to the drier trend. Eastern Europe crop areas have better rain prospects.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN PROSPECT

Across Brazil, southern crop areas are in line for light to moderate rain through the next seven days. The rain is beneficial for winter corn in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul. Lighter rain is featured in the forecast for Mato Grosso and Goias. Safrinha corn harvest is beginning in central Brazil.

SCATTERED ARGENTINA SHOWERS

Argentina crop areas have scattered light rain in store through the balance of this week. The drier trend will be favorable for corn and soybean harvest progress and for continued wheat planting.

MORE AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Western Australia wheat areas have beneficial showers in the forecast through the weekend. Eastern areas have adequate moisture for crop development due to recent rainfall.
