OMAHA (DTN) -- Dry conditions with variable temperatures in the Midwest and very little rain for the Northern Plains are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

DRIER FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a dry seven-day period in the Midwest. This should favor completion of planting. Soil moisture supplied by prior rains favors early development; however, a cool pattern later in the week will reduce growing degree day totals for progress.

LIGHT SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

Light rain is in store for the Southern Plains during this week. This round of light showers will generally favor winter wheat harvest progress.

MINIMAL NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Northern Plains, generally very warm to hot conditions are indicated through the coming week. Dryness is becoming more of a concern across the region. The NOAA drought forecast for June has drought either developing or persisting in the region.

RAIN AHEAD FOR PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, scattered showers favoring east, central and southwest areas during the next week will favor development of recently planted crops while causing only minor planting delays. Less shower activity and warmer temperatures help improve conditions for fieldwork over central and north Alberta and northwest Saskatchewan.

WEEKEND EUROPE SHOWERS

In western Europe, a variable temperature pattern with episodes of scattered rainfall will favor developing winter wheat and rapeseed and early growth of corn and sunflower for both France and Germany.

SCATTERED NORTHEAST CHINA RAIN

Northeast China will see variable temperatures with minimal rainfall during this week. This will favor row-crop planting. More rain is needed to support early development, especially through the western areas, where soil moisture is very short in some locales.

RAIN CHANCES FOR NORTH CHINA PLAIN

The North China Plain saw moderate to heavy rain in the past few days. More rain is likely this week. The effect is mostly favorable for crop moisture.

STALLED INDIA MONSOON

The leading edge of the India monsoon has stalled out in southern Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu in the south and in eastern Bangladesh in the northeast. This is about a week behind normal development at this date. Satellite pictures show areas of scattered thunderstorms in the southeast and west-central Arabian Sea, in the northwest and southeast areas of the Bay of Bengal. There is limited precipitation elsewhere in the northern Indian Ocean region.
