OMAHA (DTN) -- Divergence in Midwest planting conditions, and continued rain prospects for the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

SPLIT MIDWEST CONDITIONS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for drier and warmer conditions in the northwestern Midwest to improve conditions for planting. Meanwhile, wet and cool conditions in the east and south will continue to slow planting progress.

ADDITIONAL SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN CHANCE

In the Southern Plains, showers and warm weather continue in the forecast. This pattern will favor development of winter wheat in the region during this week. Wet weather may continue to slow planting progress in Kansas.

DRY WEEKEND FOR DELTA

In the Delta, drier and warmer conditions favor seasonal fieldwork. Favorable soil moisture for crop development is well-established.

BENEFICIAL NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

In the Northern Plains, favorable weather for fieldwork and planting is expected to continue this week. North Dakota spring wheat planting progress more than doubled the rate of the previous week, and at 45% planted, is just four percentage points behind average.

SHOWERS FOR NORTHERN CANADIAN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, a return to wet conditions is indicated for northern Alberta and northwest Saskatchewan at the end of this week. This may again delay the harvest for last season's crop still in the fields, along with disrupting spring fieldwork in preparation for planting wheat and canola. Elsewhere in the region a favorable pattern for planting is in effect at this time.

HEAVY SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN

Across Brazil, central crop areas have light showers indicated. The southern crop regions will see moderate to heavy rain. The overall pattern is beneficial for the second-crop corn (safrinha).

MILD ARGENTINA PATTERN

In central Argentina, dry conditions favor harvest progress.

FAVORABLE INDIA PROSPECTS

India's government is reportedly expecting a record food grains crop in 2017 of more than 273 million metric tons. Wheat and rice production projections have been raised. Beneficial weather is the reason for this increase.
