The company that built the soil-busting self-scouring plow 180 years ago is retiring one of its more modern offspring.

But let's clarify. There have been tweets around the Twittersphere that John Deere is ending production of the moldboard plow. Not exactly. DTN/Progressive Farmer reached out to Deere and received this reply, in its entirety:

"On July 8, 2022, John Deere will no longer take orders for the 3710 moldboard plow. John Deere will continue offering the 995 Reversible Moldboard Plow. As industry tillage practices change, customers are demanding products that help them work more acres in less time, provide versatility across numerous soil and residue conditions, and include TruSet Technology. John Deere remains committed to offering farmers a diverse and growing portfolio of tillage solutions that will continue meeting their current and future agronomic needs."

So, there you go. It seems like kind of a moment to ponder, don't you think? Any 3710 stories you might have -- past or present? Tweet me at @DMillerPF or email me at

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has announced that John Deere Chairman and CEO John May will be the first keynote speaker at CES 2023. Formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, the CES bills itself as the most influential tech event in the world. In non-COVID years, CES has been attended by 175,000 innovators, entrepreneurs, tinkerers and investors from around the world.

At CES, May is expected to discuss how purpose-driven sustainability and advancements in technology are already addressing one of the world's greatest challenges -- feeding a growing global population. This will be the first time for CES that an agriculture technology company executive will take the main stage for a keynote address.

John Deere first debuted at CES 2019 and has been exhibiting each year since.

CES 2023 will take place in Las Vegas on Jan. 5-8, 2023.

AGCO Corporation is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Gleaner brand with its 2023 model year.

"We've spent a century focused on building the best combine for farmers in the field. Staying true to our core competency allows us to offer higher productivity, better grain quality, and more cost-effective equipment," says Matt LeCroy, marketing director, hay and forage North America for AGCO Corporation.

In 1923, Curtis, Edwin, and Ernest Baldwin developed the Gleaner combine. Prior to the invention of the self-propelled harvester, crews of up to 12 were required to cut, bind, thresh, and bag the grain for storage. The Baldwin brothers, who farmed in central Kansas and ran a custom harvesting crew, recognized the productivity and economic benefits of combining these processes with one machine.
