OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Sept. 21. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.

1. Cattle news: We'll have coverage from the Certified Angus Beef conference, plus a diving into the trend of foreign cattle being fed in the U.S. We'll also update the New World Screwworm situation, as a case has found within 70 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.

2. Flinchbaugh Forum: We'll have reporting from the new Flinchbaugh Forum that "brings together the industry for honest, impactful conversations about the future of ag policy." Being held at Kansas State University, the event is in honor of that institution's famously straight-shooting ag economist Barry Flinchbaugh. Bring your own cigars.

3. Rain slows harvest: Another system is expected to move across the Corn Belt and continue the rainfall for much of the middle of the country again. Missouri, which is now deep in drought, is forecast to be the focal point of the rainfall and we could reverse some of that drought next week; this is also possible in some areas of the Ohio Valley, which also is in poor condition. These rains come too late for 2025 crops and will delay harvest, but they should boost water levels on the Mississippi River to some degree and at least stop drought from getting worse.

4. Conditions improve in South America: Spring planting is underway across southern Brazil, where soil moisture conditions are favorable. A couple of fronts moving through the region could bring in some additional showers this week. Models have trended downward with the precipitation coverage getting into central Brazil, but any rainfall would be helpful there until the wet season rains become more frequent in October. In Argentina, soil moisture is favorable for early planting of corn and sunflowers, but some producers may choose to wait longer to avoid frosts. A couple of fronts will move through the country with scattered showers that will likely keep soil conditions favorable for those that do wait.
