OMAHA (DTN) -- Major storms affecting transportation and stressing livestock across the Midwest and Northern Plains, and continued rain for most of Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MAJOR MIDWEST STORM

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for major storms to affect the Midwest today and Wednesday, adding to the snowpack in the northwest Midwest, affecting transportation and stressing livestock. Some flooding from heavy rains could be seen in the southern and eastern Midwest. Significant flooding is possible throughout the region this spring with little fieldwork expected to be accomplished during the month of March.

HEAVY SNOW IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, a new storm will bring heavy snow with strong winds to the region from northeast Colorado and west Nebraska northeast to the south and east Dakotas and west and north Minnesota Wednesday into Thursday. Additional impacts are likely to livestock, travel and transport. A blizzard warning has been issued in northeast Colorado, in west and a little of north-central Nebraska. This will further build snowpack in the region, which increases the risk for severe flooding when this melts during the spring.

MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINS IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Central and Southern Plains, moderate to heavy rains this week will favor the wheat crop, which will be breaking dormancy in the next few weeks. Soil moisture conditions should improve in the recently drier areas of Texas and Oklahoma. Heavy rainfall is likely to create muddy conditions in the feedlots. This, combined with episodes of cold weather, will stress livestock.

MORE FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Favorable weather continued for developing second-crop corn in central Brazil as the rainy season remains in place. Rain is bringing some minor disruptions to the soybean harvest in southern Brazil.

DRIER ARGENTINA TREND

A drier trend will favor filling and maturing corn and soybeans in Argentina this week.

STORMY EUROPE PATTERN

Across Europe, a much more active weather pattern continues this week in England, north and east France, Benelux, Germany and Poland. This may be either rain or snow during the week. The weekend featured moderate to heavy precipitation, mostly rain, for these areas. Precipitation, whether rain or snow, will mean adequate to surplus moisture for late-winter/early spring growth of winter wheat and rapeseed and is mostly favorable. However, it might also mean delays to spring field work and impacts to travel and transport will be increasing.

SHOWERS, COOLER WEATHER IN INDIA

Episodes of scattered showers and cool temperatures during this winter will favor development of crops, although the cool temperatures may have slowed development somewhat at times.
