Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Snow and cold in the eastern Midwest, and the impact from heavy, flooding rain in Argentina are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

EASTERN MIDWEST SNOW

The DTN ag weather forecast again calls for a cold and dry trend to favor the remaining harvest in the western Midwest, along with crops in outdoor storage. Cold and unsettled conditions will disrupt and delay the remaining harvest in the eastern Midwest. Western Midwest areas have drier conditions with more-favorable harvest prospects.

MILDER SOUTHERN PLAINS TREND

Southern Plains temperatures will remain below normal over the next week, but will be less stressful than recent very-cold conditions. Winter wheat acreage has the potential to be less than expected due to wet-weather complications during this fall season.

MORE RAIN FOR BRAZIL

Brazil crop areas again have consistent rain in the forecast through the next week. Soil moisture remains well-supplied for all but northeastern crop areas.

SLOW DRYING IN ARGENTINA

In central Argentina, recent heavy, flooding rain in central areas will disrupt and delay corn and soybean planting and may force some replanting. The rain also likely caused damage to ripe wheat. Soil moisture supplies for developing crops are adequate to surplus. The pattern will be drier over the next week, offering some improvement in conditions.

FAVORABLE BLACK SEA CONDITIONS

In the Black Sea region, Russia and Ukraine crop areas have benefited from sunny skies promoted winter wheat establishment following last week's rain.

IMPROVED EUROPE MOISTURE

Across Europe, much-needed rain has brought widespread soil moisture improvement to western Europe. Meanwhile, unusually warm weather has been favorable to winter crop development in eastern Europe.

HOT TREND FOR SOUTH AFRICA

In South Africa, a dry and hot trend is indicated through the next week. This pattern will increase stress on germination and early development of early-planted maize.
