DTN Retail Fertilizer Trends
Fertilizer Prices Continue Mixed
OMAHA (DTN) -- Retail fertilizer prices tracked by DTN for the first week of August 2025 were mixed. No fertilizer price was substantially higher or lower than a month ago for the ninth week in a row. DTN designates a significant move as anything 5% or more.
Four fertilizers had slightly higher prices. DAP had an average price of $822/ton, MAP $892/ton, potash $484/ton and UAN28 $421/ton.
Four fertilizers were slightly lower looking back to the prior month. Urea had an average price of $646/ton, 10-34-0 $669/ton, anhydrous $765/ton and UAN32 $498/ton.
On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was $0.70/lb.N, anhydrous $0.47/lb.N, UAN28 $0.75/lb.N and UAN32 $0.78/lb.N.
In an article titled "Fertilizer Decisions for the 2026 Crop Year" from the farmdocDaily e-newsletter from the University of Illinois, farmers are now considering 2026 growing season nutrient management decisions as the 2025 growing season winds down. Current fertilizer prices are higher from last year but still lower than historically high prices, the article stated.

"Current prices are well below the historical highs reached in the late spring of 2022 but remain high relative to longer run averages," the report said.
Farmers use a range of strategies to manage price risks for inputs such as fertilizers. Among the common price management strategies are forward purchasing, volume discounts, bundling fertilizer products with other products or services and varying purchases and application timing, which can spread price risk across multiple application windows.
"Farmers are also advised to consider and compare crop and fertilizer prices and use available resources, such as the Maximum Return to Nitrogen (MRTN) calculator," the article said.

Seven fertilizers are now higher in price compared to one year earlier. 10-34-0 is 5% higher, MAP is 9% more expensive, DAP is 11% higher, anhydrous is 13% more expensive, UAN28 is 25% higher, urea is 28% higher and UAN32 is 32% more expensive looking back to last year.
The remaining fertilizer price continues to be lower. Potash is 4% lower compared to last year.
DTN gathers fertilizer price bids from agriculture retailers each week to compile the DTN Fertilizer Index. DTN first began reporting data in November 2008.
