2. Crop, range conditions: After a fairly wet spring for much of the country, we'll be watching the latest USDA NASS weekly Crop Progress and Range and Pasture reports. Report data is out at 3 p.m.; we'll have analysis quickly after and an update on pasture and range conditions. We'll especially watch for any improvement in crop and range areas that have stayed dry so far in 2026.
3. Wet for some Corn Belt areas: Heavy rains during the weekend led to flood watches, warnings and advisories in some areas of the Corn Belt stretching from Nebraska and Kansas all the way to central Indiana. After the system leaves early next week, another system will be possible in the middle of next week and there could be one more for the end of the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast with both systems in various portions of the Plains and Corn Belt. Temperatures will remain near or below normal next week for most areas east of the Rockies. The combination of continued precipitation and milder air should be mostly favorable.
4. International fronts: We'll continue to watch and report on outcomes from the "MOU" signed by the U.S. and Iran. Since the signing, there has been on-again, off-again announcements of the Straight of Hormuz opening/closing to ship movement as clashes continued between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon during the weekend. We're also track the now rather steady announcements of additional New World Screwworm (NWS) detections in border U.S. states with Mexico. Keep on top of the latest DTN coverage on NWS by going to our special Spotlight on New World Screwworm site at https://www.dtnpf.com/….
5. World weather: The Canadian Prairies have seen widespread rainfall the past 10 days. The latest system, bringing heavy rain to some areas, moved out during the weekend, though more disturbances are forecast this week, continuing the frequent showers that have kept soil moisture high. Flooding may be a concern in some areas. Temperatures will remain mild through the week, slowing plant growth. That may be an issue for late summer and early fall if colder air comes in early. In the Southern Hemisphere, a front will move through southern and central Brazil over the weekend, with another band of widespread showers forecast for Sunday through Tuesday. Rain will help late corn and vegetative wheat, but it is getting late to be much help for most corn. Colder air that will move in behind the second front may cause some frosts over wheat areas in the far south, but would not be damaging. Corn areas are not at much of a risk for frost though it will be cooler to limit stress on what remains of filling corn. See more about the South American crop at https://www.dtnpf.com/….
