OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Sept. 28. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.

1. Government shutdown: As of this writing, a government shutdown seems imminent, which could delay farm payouts that USDA Ag Secretary Rollins discussed Sept. 25, as well as crippling other USDA and FSA functions in the heat of harvest.

2. About those payouts: Speaking of farm supports, the administration has promised relief for farmers who are seeing corn and soybeans prices tank due to the trade wars it has initiated. Funds are said to come from the tariff taxes being collected on imported goods, funds mostly paid in by importers and consumers. So, for farmers, who are also paying more for equipment and inputs due to tariff taxes on those goods, this round of government support is a bit like a farmer-exclusive tax rebate. We'll be watching how that plays out across the country.

3. Grain Stocks Report: One thing likely to slip in ahead of any government shutdown is the September Grain Stocks Small Grains Summary report, released at 11 a.m. Tuesday. We'll have full coverage, with updates throughout the morning. You can also join our Rhett's Reaction webinar, featuring analysis by DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery. Note, make sure your registration link contains "events.zoom.us" phrasing. If it contains "Webex," that link is no longer valid as we have switched to the more robust Zoom webinar platform.

4. Drier weather on tap: The past few weeks of wet weather is beginning to take the brown out of the U.S. Drought Monitor map. This week will bring drier, better harvesting weather to much of the Corn Belt. But a tropical disturbance moving into the Bahamas is forecast to form into a named system, Imelda, over the weekend. Areas in the Southeast will need to closely watch the development of this system which could bring some wind damage and significant rainfall and flooding early in the week.
