Top 5 Things to Watch
WASDE Week and More Precipitation
OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of July 6. Watch for coverage of these and other topics through the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.
Note that all report release and webinar times are Central Daylight Savings Time unless otherwise noted.
1. Weather: Rain systems continue, with a system slowly moving into the middle of the country during the weekend and into the July 6 week. More disturbances will follow behind that front through the week. Temperatures for much of that area will be normal to above normal for the period. So far, the forecast creates good growing conditions for much of the Corn Belt, which could also weigh on futures prices going into July. Meanwhile Tropical Storm Chantal will be moving through the Carolinas Sunday into Monday morning and bringing heavy rain in some areas.
2. Full market week: We return back to a full market week following the July Fourth holiday. Our market coverage picks up with a quick look Sunday evening, followed by our Early Word commentary first thing Monday morning. Friday is the July World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, with coverage starting after 11 a.m. with updates throughout the morning.
3. WASDE Webinar at 12:30 p.m.: Following the WASDE release, join us for a free webinar featuring DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery. He'll have his take on the numbers and what they mean for July markets, and there will be plenty of time for your questions. To register, go to https://www.dtn.com/….
4. Budget legislation reverberations: DTN Ag Policy Editor Chris Clayton reports that farmers are among the biggest winners of the budget reconciliation package that passed on Thursday and President Donald Trump signed into law on July 4. (See more of what is in the package at https://www.dtnpf.com/…) We will continue to dig into what it means for farming and the country as a whole. See more analysis by Clayton in his blog, https://www.dtnpf.com/….
5. Reports through the week: Monday's market restart will be watching export inspection numbers at 10 a.m., then we'll have the holiday-delayed CFTC Commitments of Traders report at 2:30 p.m., followed by USDA NASS Crop Progress report at 3 p.m. Then Tuesday is relatively quiet on reports with the U.S. Ag Trade Data Update released at 1 p.m. On Wednesday, we'll see the latest EIA Petroleum Status Report at 9:30 a.m., with the release of the minutes of the May FOMC meeting at 1 p.m. Early Thursday starts at 7:30 a.m. with Weekly Export Sales and Initial Jobless Claims, then Weekly Slaughter at 2 p.m. Closing the week Friday is the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) Report along with the NASS Crop Production Report at 11 a.m., followed by the World Markets and Trade Reports at 11:15 a.m. The weekly CFTC Commitments of Traders report is out at 2:30 p.m.
