Heavy Rain for Mid-Mississippi Valley

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Milder temperatures and areas of rain in the Corn Belt, and fairly good weather across the rest of the globe are the weather factors driving the markets Wednesday.

HEAVY RAIN FOR SOUTHWEST MIDWEST

A front will remain stalled off to the southwest, but will bring areas of thunderstorms and heavy rain for the next few days. A system moving through this weekend will bring more widespread rainfall and more disturbances are forecast to bring precipitation through next week. Outside of a day or two of heat, temperatures will remain mild, favorable for filling corn and pod-setting soybeans.

RAIN NORTH AND HEAT SOUTH IN THE PLAINS

A front continues to be stalled across the northern end of the Central Plains, bringing areas of showers and thunderstorms, severe weather, and milder temperatures. The Southern Plains continue to bake in the heat. A system moving through this weekend will reinforce that front, though may push it farther south. Showers will continue along and north of the front next week, and cooler temperatures will move in as well.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Scattered showers and thunderstorms have been moving through the Northern Plains with areas of good rainfall and some severe weather, but not all areas have been hit. Several disturbances will move through over the next week with periods of showers, which may help corn and soybeans, but it is getting too late to be of much help for wheat. Temperatures will be mostly mild, limiting stress for areas that have been missed.

HOTTER IN THE DELTA

Heat continues in the Delta with high temperatures approaching the 100-degree mark and overnight lows in the 70s, stressful for filling soybeans and cotton. The forecast remains hot with the cold front essentially stalled over northern areas this week, which may bring some showers through. Conditions are mixed, but very unfavorable for any areas that miss out on the rainfall. The front will be pushed farther south this weekend or early next week, with rain following it and becoming more likely.

LIMITED SHOWERS FOR CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Isolated showers moved through the Canadian Prairies early this week. Another system looks to move through Thursday and Friday with more. Precipitation will not be widespread or overly helpful. Crops are starting to reach maturity and rainfall will be less beneficial from now on.

GOOD WEATHER FOR SAFRINHA HARVEST IN BRAZIL

Dry conditions in place across Brazil will be beneficial for the remaining safrinha corn harvest. A front moving in early next week should bring more showers for developing wheat in the south, which is largely in good condition due to more frequent rainfall.

WIDESPREAD RAIN IN EUROPE

Rainfall has been fairly widespread and frequent across Europe as of late. With a trough continuing to spin off to the north, many more storm systems will be moving across the continent through next week. Temperatures will be mild to cool, favorable for developing corn and other summer crops, but unfavorable for the continued winter grain harvest.

MIXED CONDITIONS FOR THE BLACK SEA

An active pattern in Europe is keeping Ukraine busy this week with several waves of showers moving through. Southwestern Russia will be much drier with hotter temperatures, unfavorable for filling corn.
