Periods of Rain, Severe Weather Continuing This Week

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Mild temperatures and more rain for the U.S. and Canada and a drier central Brazil are the weather factors driving the markets Tuesday.

WARM WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR MIDWEST

Scattered showers went through some of the driest areas of the Midwest over the weekend and Monday, favorable for emergent corn and soybeans, but also brought severe weather. After a couple drier days, another system in the Plains will bring more widespread showers for late week and weekend. Most areas yet to plant will have a window of opportunity to get into the fields, while some of these showers will be beneficial. Showers will be disorganized, however, which will leave some areas dry. Temperatures will be warm until a front drops south through the region around the middle of next week, with cooler readings likely.

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS GETTING MORE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS

Waves of showers will continue to develop across the Central and Southern Plains this week. They will be largely disorganized, which may leave some areas missed by the activity, but may still produce areas of severe weather. Despite the sporadic nature, the continued period of rainfall is favorable to some of the driest areas in the country, including those areas in the southwest. It will get drier after the weekend.

WARM AND SHOWERY FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Temperatures continue to be near or above normal in the Northern Plains for the next week, favoring planting. Scattered showers that fell over the past weekend will continue in waves through the coming weekend, offering an increase in soil moisture for some of the dry areas.

DELTA GETTING MORE RAINFALL

Wetter soils in the Delta are mostly favorable for developing crops. Disorganized areas of showers and thunderstorms will be possible through early next week, which may or may not hit most areas. Either way, conditions continue to be mostly favorable for seeds in the ground.

MILD TEMPERATURES IN CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Mild temperatures continue to favor planting progress in the Canadian Prairies. Disorganized showers will be possible throughout the week, though may not hit very many areas with anything of significance except areas in the southeast that may see some better rainfall Friday and Saturday. Cooler temperatures may be possible for a brief period next week but would likely come with additional rainfall.

DRYING OUT IN BRAZIL

A front continues with isolated showers in southern Brazil through Wednesday before the country dries out. Showers may clip the far southern safrinha corn areas, but the recent rains have helped to increase soil moisture for winter wheat. Safrinha corn areas have good soil moisture for now but would prefer if the front brought some showers. The next chance would be for another front late next week. Temperatures remain warm with no risk of frost.

UNFAVORABLE DRYNESS IN ARGENTINA

It remains dry in Argentina, unfavorable for winter wheat planting and establishment. More rain is needed. However, it should remain drier for at least the next week. A front may go through with showers in the middle of next week.

GOOD WEATHER FOR MOST OF EUROPE; SPAIN STILL DRY

Scattered showers will continue across most of Europe for the next week with an active pattern. Some of Spain may also see some showers, but the country continues to be very dry and in drought. Otherwise, good weather conditions continue for winter- and spring-sown crops.

COOL IN THE BLACK SEA

Below-normal temperatures in place across the Black Sea region may have produced a frost over the far northern areas, but no significant damage is likely to have occurred. Temperatures will gradually moderate, but no more frosts are expected. Showers are less likely for most of the next week or more, but soil moisture is mostly favorable across the region.
