Networking with farmers from across the country is an added bonus of attending the DTN Ag Summit. (Joel Reichenberger)

What a difference a year makes. COVID-19 and concerns for attendees' health and safety resulted in changing the 2020 DTN Ag Summit to a virtual event. But, for 2021, you can once again meet face-to-face with other farmers and industry experts as we gather Dec. 5 through 7 at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park Hotel, in Chicago.

"Power Up Your Business" is this year's theme. Visit www.dtn.com/agsummit to review the entire agenda, registration and hotel details. You'll find a wide variety of topics and speakers who will challenge your thinking and provide invaluable information to help you make smarter decisions for your farming business. Sign up by Nov. 26, and you'll save $100 off the registration fee.

Here are a few highlights of the 2021 DTN Ag Summit:

-- No country moves commodity markets more or has a bigger effect on U.S. ag trade than China. Former U.S. Ambassador to China (2017-2020) Terry Branstad will discuss the Phase One agreement with China to substantially increase imports of U.S. agricultural products. He will share his insights on what this new global trade environment means to your economic future and what may be on the horizon for enhancing the trade deal between the two countries.

-- Supply-chain disruptions have become part of our daily conversations. Kanlaya Barr, John Deere's lead economist for agriculture, will provide her analysis of what's likely to drive the global economy post-COVID, how business practices of major companies will change as a result and the major factors that will shape the U.S. and world economy in the years ahead.

-- Carbon markets offer opportunities for additional income, but farmers have many questions on program offerings and payments. A panel of industry representatives and growers will provide a spirited conversation to help clear up confusion around carbon markets.

-- Weather and markets are always on the minds of farmers, and DTN has the industry's best analysts to help separate the wheat from the chaff. DTN lead analyst Todd Hultman and DTN ag meteorologists Bryce Anderson and John Brannick will share their respective outlooks for 2022.

-- Chad Greenway grew up on a South Dakota farm and went on to become an All-Pro linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings. Upon retirement, he returned to his ag roots as founder of Gray Duck Vodka. He sources many of the ingredients from young Minnesota farmers and will share his personal story on how the lessons he learned on the farm inspired his efforts to build up others through his charity and his business.

-- The 2022 class of America's Best Young Farmers and Ranchers will be announced as well as the equipment manufacturers that came out on top in the Progressive Farmer Reader Insights Awards.

-- Attendees can also select from multiple breakout sessions focused on topics such as cybersecuring your business, farm succession, navigating the new tax code, employee compensation, grain marketing, data management, stress/mental health and more.

Finally, two pre-Summit workshops on Sunday, Dec. 5, offer timely topics. The young farmer session explores the challenges common to establishing a strong business foundation. Many center around family dynamics, so farmers of all ages will find the workshop valuable. The marketing session will define and sort out key marketing signals and tools to help manage risk and potentially provide higher returns.
