Commodities Market Impact Weather
Midwest Rain Expected
OMAHA (DTN) -- A forecast for widespread Midwest rain during the next week and frost damage to the Brazil winter corn crop are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.
INCREASED MIDWEST RAIN CHANCE
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain to cover much of the Midwest during the next week to 10 days. The rain will be accompanied by more seasonal temperatures. This is a favorable forecast for pollinating corn and soybeans in the blooming and pod setting stages.
VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS
Southern Plains areas will be dry and hot the next two days, offering favorable conditions for wheat harvest with increased irrigation demand for row crops. Scattered thundershowers during the last half of the week are in store which will cause some harvest disruption along with easing stress to corn, soybeans, sorghum and cotton.
NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS
Northern Plains areas had some light to moderate rain Monday night through early Tuesday. Additional showers are indicated through the balance of the week. Rainfall will combine with lower temperatures to ease crop stress. In addition, areas with heavier precipitation could see some improvement in crop prospects.

DELTA SHOWERS
Periods of showers are in store for the Delta during the next five days. Crop conditions are mostly favorable.
ELSA RAIN IN SOUTHEAST
In the Southeast, Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to cross northern Florida to the south Atlantic coast during the next few days. The storm will produce moderate to locally heavy rain with some flooding as it tracks from the eastern Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic Ocean.
SHOWERS FOR PRAIRIES
In the Canadian Prairies, light to moderate rain showers are indicated during the next seven days. The showers will be accompanied by some easing of the recent extreme heat; however, western sectors will continue with above- to much-above normal temperatures.
BRAZIL FREEZE DAMAGE
Damage to Brazil's winter corn crop is now confirmed after a harsh cold snap during the end of June. The freeze brought crop loss to the southern half of Brazil's growing region. Reports indicate that this was the worst cold wave in 20 years. The cold wave damage adds to drought-induced loss in Brazil's winter corn crop.
BLACK SEA SHOWERS
In the Black Sea region, showers occurred the past few days for Ukraine and western Russia which will benefit developing crops. A drier and warmer trend is in store during the balance of the week. Scattered showers may return next week.
