Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- The beginning of a rainy stretch in the Midwest and deepening drought in northern and western crop areas are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.

MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain across most of the Midwest during the next seven days. Some flooding is possible; however, rainfall and seasonal temperatures will be favorable for developing corn and soybeans. The rainfall will disrupt winter wheat harvest in the region.

SHOWERS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Periods of showers and thunderstorms are indicated for the Southern Plains through the seven-day period. The moisture will offer a mixed effect for crop conditions. Row crops will take in beneficial moisture. However, winter wheat harvest will have slowdowns due to storms. Crop damage from severe storms is also possible.

LIMITED NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

Northern Plains crops will take in only limited moisture from isolated thunderstorms during the next seven days. Drought continues to be well in place across the region.

SCATTERED DELTA AND SOUTHEAST RAINFALL

Mostly scattered showers are in the forecast for the Delta and Southeast during the next seven days. Crop conditions are generally favorable. Some heavier rains may develop in the northern portion of the Delta.

LIGHT PRAIRIES RAIN

Variable light rain is indicated across the Canadian Prairies during the next week. Drought remains in effect over much of the region.

ONGOING BRAZIL DRYNESS

Across Brazil, central crop areas have a dry seven-day forecast. Southern areas have some potential for frost, which would be unfavorable for filling corn.

FAVORABLE RUSSIA CONDITIONS

Russia and Ukraine wheat conditions are generally favorable ahead of harvest. The past 30-day moisture totals have been well-above normal. Higher temperatures during the past week are useful for wheat maturity and ripening. Recent wheat crop size projections have featured larger numbers than earlier in the year.
