Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Mixed conditions for Midwest temperatures and precipitation and ongoing dryness in Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN PROSPECT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for Midwest temperatures to slowly trend to seasonal values through the weekend. This will keep the progress of row crops slow, notably in the eastern Midwest where several nights of frost and freeze conditions have occurred. The pattern turns warmer into next week, helping to accelerate germination and early growth. There will be better chances for more widespread rainfall Friday through next week; however, drier northern areas have only light amounts in store.

IMPROVED SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIPITATION

Southern Plains crop areas have favorable conditions currently and in the forecast. Temperatures will trend higher through the end of the week. More widespread showers are expected this weekend through next week as an upper level low likely stalls around the region. This will continue to increase soil moisture, with temperatures running near to slightly below normal.

ADDITIONAL NORTHERN PLAINS DRYNESS

In the Northern Plains, drought continues as a major point of concern. Rainfall forecasts offer lower amounts during the next week than previously indicated. A system moving through late next week is the best chance at anything widespread. A warming trend through the end of the week will offer improved conditions for germination and early development in areas with better soil moisture.

PERIODIC DELTA SHOWERS

The Delta has periods of light to moderate showers in store through the next seven days. This will generally be favorable for crop progress. Temperatures will be seasonal.

DRIER SOUTHEAST TREND

The southeastern U.S. has a drier trend in the next five days. This drier pattern will be favorable for crop progress.

DRY LATE WEEK IN PRAIRIES

The Canadian Prairies have isolated to scattered showers through the balance of the week. However, the drought pattern will continue. A system in the middle to end of next week could bring widespread meaningful precipitation to the region.

ONGOING BRAZIL DRYNESS

In central Brazil, continued hot and dry conditions continue for central crop areas. The dry season appears to have begun in Mato Grosso. Meanwhile, Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana have dry conditions which are assessed as anomalous in the latest USDA weekly weather and crop bulletin. Prospects for the second-crop corn (safrinha) continue to be reduced in public and private estimates.

MINIMAL ARGENTINA RAINFALL

Argentina continues with no more than light rain in the seven-day forecast. The dry conditions favor row crop harvest.
