Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Prospects for the dry season setting in over central Brazil and a mixed rainfall pattern for the U.S. Midwest are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.

MIXED MIDWEST RAIN PROSPECT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a mixed prospect in Midwest rain potential. Southern and eastern sectors have moderate to heavy totals in store during the next seven days along with the threat of flooding. In contrast, the northwestern portion of the region will have only light amounts, with lingering dryness concerns. Planting progress is near the five-year average.

STORMY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains has a stormy outlook during the next 24 to 48 hours. A developing storm system is indicated to produce moderate to heavy precipitation for northern, central and southeastern sectors of the region. This includes the potential for severe storms. Meanwhile, the southwestern sector will be dry with deepening drought conditions.

MINIMAL NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

In the Northern Plains, recent rain and snow showers brought only light precipitation with so noticeable easing of extreme drought conditions. Increasing temperatures are allowing more planting.

VARIABLE DELTA FORECAST

The Delta has a drier pattern in the short-term forecast which will be favorable for planting. Storms and locally heavy rain are indicated during the Wednesday-to-Thursday time frame, disrupting progress along with causing possible flooding.

DRIER SOUTHEAST TREND

The southeastern U.S. has a drier pattern ahead during the next two days which will be favorable for fieldwork and crop conditions. Storms are indicated to move into the region later this week.

WARM AND DRY AGAIN IN PRAIRIES

Drought remains in the Canadian Prairies. A weekend frontal system brought very little precipitation to the region. Warmer weather will allow fieldwork but will also extract further soil moisture.

DRY SEASON POSSIBILITY IN BRAZIL

Primary Brazil central and southern crop areas continue with only light rain showers in the seven-day forecast. The end of the rainy season appears to be starting for central Brazil. This is unfavorable for the second-crop corn which has largely been planted later than average.

IMPROVED ARGENTINA HARVEST PATTERN

The Argentina seven-day forecast indicates light rainfall, which will be more favorable for row crop harvest progress.

POSSIBLE EUROPE SHOWERS

Primary Europe crop areas have a higher chance of above-normal precipitation during the next week to 10 days. This pattern will be closely watched for potential improvement in crop moisture for wheat and rapeseed.

LIGHT BLACK SEA SHOWERS

Russia and Ukraine crop areas continue with variable rain showers in the seen-day forecast. This pattern is not seen as stressful to crop moisture conditions due to recent rainfall offering favorable soil moisture.
