OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued dry conditions in Brazil's winter corn areas and variable Midwest rain are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Monday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for variability in rainfall across the Midwest. Southern and eastern sectors have moderate to heavy totals in store during the next seven days. In contrast, the northwestern portion of the region will have only light amounts, with lingering dryness concerns. Planting progress is expected to be near the five-year average.

VOLATILE IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains have a volatile pattern in store. Dry, windy and very warm conditions are leading to a high wildfire threat during early week, indicating stress for winter wheat, notably in the western sector of the region. Southeastern areas have thunderstorm and severe weather potential in the forecast through midweek.

LIGHT NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

In the Northern Plains, light rain and snow are bringing only slight easing of extreme drought conditions. Increasing temperatures are allowing more planting.

DRIER IN DELTA

The Delta has a drier forecast this week which offers improved conditions for planting and crop development.

SOUTHEAST STORM IMPACT

The southeastern United States had severe thunderstorms during the past weekend along with occurrences of locally heavy rain. The pattern this week is drier with improving crop conditions.

CONTINUED PRAIRIES DROUGHT

Drought remains in the Canadian Prairies. A weekend frontal system brought very little precipitation to the region. The temperature pattern does show some moderation during the week which will allow fieldwork.

MORE BRAZIL DRYNESS

Primary Brazil central and southern crop areas continue with only light rain showers in the seven-day forecast. The end of the rainy season appears to be starting for central Brazil. This is unfavorable for the second-crop corn which has largely been planted later than average.

LIGHT ARGENTINA RAIN

The Argentina seven-day forecast indicates light rainfall, which will be more favorable for row crop harvest progress.

SHOWER CHANCE FOR EUROPE

Primary Europe crop areas have a higher chance of above-normal precipitation during the next week to 10 days. This pattern will be closely watched for potential improvement in crop moisture for wheat and rapeseed.

MIXED BLACK SEA SHOWERS

Russia and Ukraine crop areas have mixed rain showers in the next seven days. This pattern is not seen as stressful to crop moisture conditions due to recent rainfall offering favorable soil moisture.
