Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- An intense central United States cold wave and variable precipitation for the winter corn areas of Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.

MORE MIDWEST COLD

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a continued cold pattern through the Midwest during the next two days. Hard freezes may occur for much of the region, doing damage to winter wheat and early planted corn. The pattern modifies with more seasonal conditions expected in the seven- to 10-day period.

SOUTHERN PLAINS FREEZE

Hard freezes were recorded in the western half of the Plains overnight Monday into Tuesday and may have damaged wheat. Risks for hard freezes continue through most of the week and may get into eastern areas as well, where corn planting and emergence have been more advanced.

LIGHT NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

Northern Plains crop areas have only light precipitation in the seven-day forecast. Drought is well-established in much of the region. Temperatures will be well-below normal, keeping spring fieldwork delayed.

DELTA THUNDERSTORMS

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to cover much of the Delta during the next week. Some fieldwork delays are possible.

RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST

In the Southeast, several periods of rain continue in the forecast through the next week with moderate to heavy precipitation. This stormy trend will cause delays in additional fieldwork progress.

CONTINUED PRAIRIES DRYNESS

Canadian Prairies dryness has no change in the outlook. Drought is expected to continue into May.

VARIABLE BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil received some useful rain during the past weekend. However, south-central Brazil was dry. Most Brazil winter corn areas have only light rainfall ahead this week. This is unfavorable for the winter corn crop.

WIDESPREAD ARGENTINA RAIN FORECAST

Primary Argentina crop areas have near general rain in the five-day forecast. This rain will cause a new round of harvest delays.

DRY AND COLD IN EUROPE

Across Europe, below-average precipitation is indicated in the 10-day forecast. This is unfavorable for wheat and rapeseed. Temperatures have a below-normal trend which will hinder crop progress.

CONTINUED BLACK SEA SHOWERS

Scattered showers continue in the Black Sea region through the weekend, bringing favorable soil moisture for greening and developing winter wheat in Russia and Ukraine.
