Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued rain for the Midwest and Southern Plains during the next seven days and an easing of stressful conditions in South America are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Wednesday.

WIDESPREAD MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to locally heavy rain in the southern half of the Midwest during Wednesday and Thursday. This active pattern continues with another storm system in the forecast during next week. Soil moisture will continue to show significant improvement. Some flooding is possible in southern areas as well due to heavy rain.

ADDITIONAL PRECIPITATION FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, additional precipitation is indicated during Wednesday and Thursday. The type of precipitation will vary, with moderate to heavy snow in western areas and moderate to heavy rain central and east. This will continue the beneficial reversal of fortune for winter wheat as it exits dormancy along with providing moisture benefit ahead of row crop planting.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

Northern Plains crop areas have variable soil moisture. South Dakota has had a notable improvement following recent heavy snow. North Dakota and Montana still need moisture recharge. The next chance for the region to take in meaningful precipitation is during the five- to seven-day period. However, drier areas have very little precipitation indicated.

WET DELTA PATTERN

The Delta will have more rain Wednesday and Thursday as a new storm system moves through the region with possible severe intensity. This stormy trend and associated rainfall will delay some early fieldwork and planting.

WIDESPREAD BRAZIL RAIN PROSPECT

Across Brazil, widespread moderate to heavy showers across the south are forecast Wednesday and Thursday, and another front could do the same this weekend into early next week. Meanwhile, daily scattered showers across central and northern areas will continue to benefit immature corn and soybeans and newly planted corn, even if amounts are not as heavy as normal. The lighter rains in central and northern areas will allow for additional soybean harvest and second-crop corn (safrinha) planting.

MIXED ARGENTINA RAIN FORECAST

In Argentina, light rainfall is forecast during the end of the week. This light moisture will keep dryness impact in place for row crops approaching maturity. Heavier rain with some benefit for later-planted crops is indicated during the six- to 10-day period.
