OMAHA (DTN) -- A variable rain forecast across Brazil and bitter cold throughout the central United States are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.

BITTER COLD FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for bitter cold to cover the Midwest during the balance of the week. A strong cold front with the cold wave will offer snow potential to the southern and eastern sectors of the region. Temperatures nearing zero Fahrenheit may make it down into the winter wheat belt, with increased risk for winterkill for exposed crops across Illinois and Indiana.

COLD THREAT FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS WHEAT

Southern Plains wheat areas are in store for temperatures to plunge to near or below zero Fahrenheit for a wide section of the region and for a good period of time. Exposed winter wheat will be at increased risk for winterkill, especially later this week and weekend.

MORE NORTHERN PLAINS ARCTIC COLD

The Northern Plains have continued Arctic cold wave conditions through the middle of the month. Well below normal temperatures are featured. This pattern will be stressful to livestock and will hinder transportation. The colder pattern remains in place through at least the 10- to 14-day time frame.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN PATTERN

In central Brazil, a drier trend has offered periods for soybean harvest and planting of safrinha (second crop) corn. Showers and thunderstorms return to central Brazil later this week. The return of rainfall will help germination of safrinha crops but cause further harvest and planting delays.

SHOWERS TO CROSS ARGENTINA

Argentina's crop areas have increased showers west and north early this week, with the precipitation coverage indicated to focus north east later this week. Central areas will be bypassed, leading to more dryness concerns for reproductive to filling corn and soybeans. This area has seen heavy rainfall mixed with prolonged dry stretches over the last month, leading to mixed crop conditions.
