OMAHA (DTN) -- Beneficial conditions in South America and a harsh cold wave headed for the central United States are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Wednesday.

MIDWEST BLIZZARD THREAT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a strong Arctic cold wave to move into the Midwest during the Thursday-to-Friday time frame. This bitter cold air will combine with periods of snow and strong winds to produce blizzard conditions in portions of the region. During the coming weekend, air temperatures will likely fall to below zero Fahrenheit. This is the coldest period of the winter so far with disruption to transport along with safety hazard and possible stress to exposed winter wheat.

COLD AND DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains wheat areas have a mainly cold and dry pattern in the seven-day forecast. Temperatures are forecast to decline to the single digits Fahrenheit but are not expected to reach below zero levels. Dry conditions remain as primary concerns for the wheat crop. Snow cover is limited to a few inches in northern Kansas.

COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains have a strong cold wave ahead. Temperatures are indicated to plunge to well-below normal values by the weekend. This pattern will be stressful to livestock and will hinder transportation. The colder pattern remains in place through at least the 10- to 14-day time frame.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL TREND

Across Brazil, moderate to heavy rain is indicated in the seven-day forecast for central and northern areas. Lighter rain is in store for southern areas, and eastern crop areas will be mainly dry. Recent rain has been favorable for crop moisture. Soybean harvest progress and safrinha corn planting continue to lag the average pace.

USEFUL ARGENTINA PRECIPITATION

Argentina's central crop areas have notably improved conditions following recent moderate to heavy rain. Scattered showers continue through Wednesday, followed by a drier pattern through the following week. Temperatures are forecast to be seasonal to below normal during the next seven days.
