OMAHA (DTN) -- Concern over large soil moisture deficits in South America and very little rainfall for Southern Plains wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST PRECIPITATION

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for most Midwest areas to have dry conditions during the beginning of the weekend. Showers are in store for the region during Sunday. Light amounts are indicated for the western sector while eastern areas have light to moderate amounts. Additional rain is indicated for the eastern Midwest during early to mid-next week with additional moderate amounts.

SOUTHWESTERN PLAINS DRYNESS

Southwestern Plains wheat areas have mainly dry concerns through the next week. Precipitation is expected to be minimal. Drought issues are forecast to continue through the winter season. Significant precipitation is likely only in the eastern sector, which is a lower production sector of the region.

DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains regions has a mainly dry and mild pattern for the season during the next week. Scattered light rain showers are possible during the first part of the week.

DRY FOR SOUTHEAST HARVEST

Delta and Southeast crop areas will be dry through the next seven days. This drier trend will be favorable for cotton harvest.

BRAZIL MOISTURE CONCERN

Drier conditions have returned to central and southern Brazil crop areas after some midweek rainfall. Concern is notable over long-term soil moisture deficits. Precipitation during the past 60 days is from 50 to 80% below average. This concern is likely to remain high in trade thoughts as Brazil crops go further into the growth and development cycle.

VARIABLE SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA

Argentina has light to moderate rain in the forecast through the next seven days. Coverage area has expanded to include almost all central crop areas. This rain chance will be closely watched.

RUSSIA WHEAT MOISTURE CONCERNS

Black Sea region crop areas have variable conditions as winter grains go into dormancy. Winter crops in central and southern Ukraine reportedly have largely recovered from autumn drought. However, winter wheat from eastern Ukraine into Russia has entered dormancy in fair to poor shape.

SCATTERED AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Australia wheat areas have only scattered light showers through the weekend. Very limited wheat harvest disruption is indicated.
