Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- A cool and dry Midwest forecast and ongoing dryness in Russia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VERY COOL AND DRY FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a dry and much cooler pattern across the Midwest through the next two weeks. This pattern will favor corn and soybean harvest. Any rain with the cooling will be light, offering only minor harvest delays. Very windy conditions are in store with the onset of the much cooler pattern. Some frost occurrence is also possible in northern and eastern areas with the notable temperature change.

LIMITED SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Southern Plains crop and pasture areas will be mainly dry over the next week. Scattered rain showers with an approaching cold front offer very little rain for primary wheat areas. The dry trend will favor row crop harvest and winter wheat planting. However, soil moisture for early wheat development and fall livestock pasture is declining.

WINDY AND DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Dry and windy conditions remain in place for the next 10 days in the Northern Plains. This pattern will favor harvest progress.

VARIABLE DELTA AND SOUTHEAST TRENDS

Moderate to heavy tropical system rain in the Delta and Southeast earlier this week has disrupted harvest and caused some crop damage. The Delta will be dry through the weekend with improved harvest conditions. The Southeast continues with periods of rain which will cause more harvest delays and some additional crop damage.

BRAZIL RAIN DELAYS

Central Brazil crop areas have only isolated light showers in the forecast. The dry pattern is unfavorable for soybean planting. Southern Brazil continues with a wetter pattern through the seven-day period.

PROMISING ARGENTINA RAIN CHANCE

Central Argentina has moderate to heavy rain forecast through the next five days. This will be closely watched for easing drought conditions in central and southern crop areas.

MOSTLY DRY IN PRAIRIES

The Canadian Prairies have light scattered rain in store to cross southern areas through the weekend. Harvest conditions remain generally favorable.

STORMY EUROPE FORECAST

Europe crop areas are in line for several periods of moderate to heavy rain during the next week. Rain will offer a recharge to soil moisture for winter grains planting and germination. However, the rain will disrupt summer crop harvest and may cause some crop damage.

DRY RUSSIA FORECAST

Russia and Ukraine wheat areas have a mixed rainfall forecast. Moderate rain is indicated for western Ukraine in the next seven days. Russia, however, has a mainly dry pattern with very little improvement in the soil moisture profile for winter wheat. The Black Sea region in general has had no more than 20% of normal precipitation in the past 60 days.

LIGHT AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Light rain showers are in store for both western and eastern Australia wheat areas during the next week. Wheat crop prospects continue to indicate a much larger crop than the last two years.
